Ch 11

There was a train ride. Two children and 4 adults were going on vacation together. The children were about five years old each. Two of the adults were parents to the boy, and the other two to the girl. Everything was going well for the first few hours. Then something happened. An explosion occured on the train. A piece of metal was going for the girl, but the boy jumped between them and was pierced through the chest. A second boy about fourteen ran into the car from the outside. When he saw the two children, he began to frantically call for help.

"I see," said Ken. "So it's happened again."

It was midnight at the Pokemon Center in Pewter City at the moment. Zena had called Ken because of Jack's condition.

She looked depressed and worried, but not her frantic worried, more of her depressed worried. "Do you...Think he'll be alright?" she asked.

"Zena," began Ken,"Jack hasn't coughed blood in probably over a decade by now. This is the first time I've seen him revert even slightly back to his old condition."

"What do you mean?" asked Zena.

Ken looked depressed. "You remember the accident don't you? Don't respond, how could you forget. You were there twelve years ago. The day both yours and Jack's parents died. All because of some terrorist."

Zena looked even more depressed. "...how could I forget it? Jack nearly died in that attack. As a result of him saving me...he..."

"His heart was pierced straight through," Ken finished for her. "I know. I was there to pull you both out of the wreckage of that train. It was a miracle that Jack managed to live. He had a few blood coughing spells, but that lasted only a couple of months. I've seen him under all kinds of extreme stress. Plus he's in perfect health. I don't know what could have possibly caused him to cough blood again after nearly 12 years."

"Uh....Um..." Zena looked away from the screan, unsure what to say.

Ken raised an eyebrow."You know something?"

"Well...I..." Zena then began to tell Ken of the events that happened only a few hours before. Ken listened intensely as Zena as she was recalling all the previous events to him. "And after that...I sorta...almost carried him all the way here..."

Ken looked at her with a serious glance. While he was doing so, he thought deeply about all she said. Finally he spoke,"I think I know what might have caused him to start coughing blood again. Jack is always strong, but everyone has their weak points. You were always his Zena. You always seemed to be the one person he cared about the most. I suppose that's one of the main reasons he payed so much attention to you when you needed it. When he saw you as upset as you were, and when he realized that he was the cause of it, he must've had a mental breakdown. It was like his whole world came crashing down. Better yet it was like he lost his reason to live. With his brain processing all this, he probably thought he was stabbed in the heart all over again."

Zena looked at Ken scared. I...I caused Jack to end up this way?

Ken looked at her in the eye. "I wouldn't worry to much. At best it wasn't your fault. I don't blame you and I don't think Jack will either. I just think you need to talk to him."

"But..."Zena began to protest, but Ken hung up on her.

Zena walked very slowly over to the special room the Pokemon center set up for Jack. Oddly enough, the pokemon center was equipped with the necessary equipment to treat trainers who were harmed in pokemon battles and such. Zena went inside to find Jack on a hospital bed. She sat in a chair on Jack's left side, looking down at him. He looked unconscious. Zena was begining to cry.

"Oh Jack," she began. "Why did I run off like that and make you worry? Why didn't I listen to you? Why didn't I just...just..."

She fell face foward, leaning over Jack's body, bawling even worse. "Jack, I'm Sorry! Please wake up! I didn't mean to hurt you! I never meant to cause you this kind of pain! Please Jack! Wake up! Why?! I'll do anything, just please don't die!"

She calmed down a bit. "Please Jack...I don't want to lose you either...I wanted us to...to..."Why can't I say it?"To always help each other out. After my parents died...I was all alone...My older sister, Juno, didn't stay after the funeral, I didn't have any friends in Pallet town that could comfort me, nor any family...I was...I was alone...but you...you came to me...you suffered more than I did, because your heart was pierced straight through to the other side of your body. But despite that, you tried to comfort me...why...why did you protect me?...Why did you still like me after it was my fault that you were injured?...why...why did you still like me, even though that injury you suffered at my expense gave you that horrible scar you try to hide that's over your heart? You tried to help me back then...and that wasn't the first time either..."

Zena sat up right and held a small bit of her hair in her hand. "Back then, before the accident...I was always picked on because I looked different...My hair color...even my eye color was unnatural...the other kids would pic on me...they said I was some kind of freak...just because I looked different...I almost believed them...There was that one bully that always picked on me every day...Then later...you came and pegged him with a dodgeball and sent him away...you couldn't stand how he was treating me...nor could you stand how almost everyone else did it too...I said he shouldn't have helped someone as unnatural as I was...but you didn't believe that...you said I was normal...and that my eyes and hair seperated me, and made me unique...special..." Zena held her hand to her heart. "That was one of the greatest things you've ever said to me...you became my first friend...you wanted to become a hero...so I had you make a promise...I asked you that whenever I was in trouble...that you'd come and rescue me from danger..."

She put both her hands in her lap and looked down. "Jack...please...don't leave me..."

Jack began to stir abit. He groaned. This shocked Zena and made her happy. "Jack?! Jack, you're alright!"

Jack looked over to Zena. "Zena...come here a second...I...I have to tell you something..."

Zena shook her head. "No Jack, you don't have to apologize. Yellow told me everything. You just need to rest for tomorrow."

"No, Zena," Jack said. "Not that...I...come here a second." Jack had the bed lift him slightly upwright.

Zena leaned closer to Jack so she could hear better. "What is it Ja-Mm?!"

When she had gotten close enough, Jack had reached his left hand behind Zena's head and drew her face to his, kissing her in the process. Zena's face grew redder as he held her there for a few seconds. She was almost gasping in shock disbelief. after about maybe 15 or 30 seconds, Jack removed his hand from her head and drew back abit. "Thank you Zena...for everything you've done..."

Zena was almost tearing up again. "J-Jack..."

"Get some rest," he said. "We have a gym battle to win."

"Right," agreed Zena. "Good night."

"Good night," replied Jack.

Zena left the room and headed to her own room. She was smiling and pink at the face for she was both happy and embaressed at what Jack just did. She got into her bed and went to sleep.

The next day, they both stood at the Pewter City Gym's door, ready to take on their first Gym leader. The mighty Rock type user Brock awaits.
